You never start from scratch when changing your career.

The main way people do this is look for 'transferable skills and experiences' eg what are the things that you have done, the skills you've gained, and the experiences that you've had - that are needed, required, and valued - in other jobs, industries or careers?

Self-directed learning is a proactive, learner-driven approach to growing new skills - where people take ownership of identifying their own learning needs, setting goals, finding resources, and evaluating their own progress, rather than relying solely on traditional, prescribed training.

It boosts career progression by fostering adaptability, increasing specialized skill sets, enhancing problem-solving capabilities, and encouraging a mind-set of continuous improvement.

Changing careers at 40 or 50 isn't that different to when you are younger - if anything, you have more wisdom and experience so it should make your options more open.

Knowing what you are good at relies on you understanding a few things really well

1) What are the work experiences you've had in your career, and what have you learned from all the activities you've undertaken.  We call these your professional or learned skills.  

2) what are the technical skills you have that are still relevant, and what technical skills you will need for a future role you are targeting.  We help you identify these in STORY and GROW  

3) What are your personal skills & strengths - eg how you do things, the way you show up, and your natural talent.  We help you identify these in STORY.  

Knowing this data, helps you to communicate your value more easily.
